If you were in Alan Pardew’s shoes tonight, who would be in your starting XI to take on Tottenham at St James’ Park? Who replaces the injured Mathieu Debuchy? Who fills the midfield? Does Luuk De Jong continue up front? Leave a comment below and have your say! Here’s what I’ve come up with: Krul Yanga-Mbiwa – Williamson – S.Taylor – Haidara Ben Arfa – Anita – Sissoko – Santon Sh.Ameobi – De Jong I’d take the game to Spurs. We’re at home and we basically have nothing to lose and can’t play any worse than we did against Sunderland. Play 4-4-2, with two wingers and two big strikers and lets cause problems for Spurs’ defence. The back four almost picks itself, with Yanga-Mbiwa covering at right-back while Debuchy is injured. I’d opt for Massadio Haidara at left-back, although I’d be surprised if Pardew didn’t pick Paul Dummett in his place. The position of Davide Santon has been discussed at length lately but to me, I see the Italian as a winger. He’s a good runner but poor defensively, so he should be given a chance on the wing, as we have enough cover at left-back to allow it. With two big men up front, the wingers should aim to supply with plenty of crosses but resist hoofing it towards them, as they have been guilty of in recent weeks, especially against Sunderland. I’d also throw young Adam Armstrong on as soon as possible and give him the chance of a lifetime. Who knows what might happen when a 17-year-old steps out in front of over 50,000 fans.
