If you were in Alan Pardew’s shoes tonight in Belgium, who would you pick to start in the game against Bruges? Do the Ameobi brothers start together up front? Does Xisco start? Who plays in goal? Leave a comment below and have your say!

Here’s what I’ve come up with:

Elliot

Tavernier Williamson Coloccini Ferguson

Obertan Anita Tiote Sa. Ameobi

Sh. Ameobi Cisse

I’d go with a pretty typical European team, with youngsters given a chance to shine alongside the spine of more experienced first-teamers. Shane Ferguson has been exceptional when making cameo appearances in recent weeks so starting the Northern Irishman at left-back should be a safe move.

James Tavernier is our only fit right-back who has made the trip to Belgium and has turned in some eye-catching performances in the reserve side as well as when on loan at lower league teams in recent months.

Gabriel Obertan scored the only goal against Bruges at St James’ Park and will have the chance to continue his good form tonight and potentially push for a first team place. I’d start him from the right hand side and have Sammy Ameobi on the opposite flank.

I'd like to see Ferguson playing on the left of midfield with a view to him doing this in the Premier League eventually.
