If you were in Alan Pardew’s shoes tonight, who would you pick for the game against Aston Villa? Which of the new arrivals start? Does Coloccini play despite his transfer saga? Does Papiss Cisse start up front after his goal drought? Leave a comment below and have your say!

Here’s what I’ve come up with:

Debuchy Yanga-Mbiwa Coloccini Santon

Cabaye Anita Sissoko

Gouffran Cisse Marveaux

I’d go with a 4-3-3 tonight, to accomodate our three strongest centre midfielders. Sissoko can give support to the front three and Anita will protect the back four.

Four of the new signings would start in my team as they all improve the side significantly, with Haidara not involved tonight. Cisse should start scoring with some good support and Marveaux is in form, so hopefully there will be some creativity down the flanks.

I'd swap over Gouffran and Marveaux in your lineup, and possibly bring Saylor into the lineup (due to it being harder to come straight into a team from a transfer at CB, as the partnership between the two is an important factor)

  2. Michael Brown

    debuchy yanga-mbiwa tayloe santon
    cabaye anita sissoko
    cisse gouffran

It's a good shout to be fair and I can't disagree with any of the selection. Possibly Obertan instead of Marveaux, but I probably agree that he'd be more effective as an impact player. The one that we're crying out for of course is HBA!

    Debuchy Taylor Coloccini Santon
    Marveaux Cabaye Sissoko Ferguson
    Shola Cisse

    Marveaux Gouffran

Pace on the wings to cover full backs, Anita defensive cover and two creative midfielders that hopefully get Cisse scoring

It would seem we are all selecting the same team. wonder if Pards is taking notice.

Similar but I'd play Marveaux in behind the two centre forwards, let him use his creativity to feed the strikers, rather than risk playing a forward in a wide position, while still adding support to an untested midfield and defence

I agree 100%, but I think AP has other ideas – replace Mbiwa with Saylor (we can only hope not Willo) and Gouffran with Gutierrez, pulling him and Marv back into more of a wide midfield role, and leave Cisse alone up front, I cringe when I think of it. He needs to be bold and field your team. And… if Cisse doesn't even look like scoring (, yet again…) he needs to take him off and put …well anyone else, really – Gouffran if he isn't already on, even Shameobi would be doing something (or nearly doing something).

I sincerely hope that pardew does not come out with" I think the new players need time to settle in" and does not select most of them The existing team has not done the job so nothing lost in playing as follows
    Debuchy M[bila Colloccini Santon
    anita Cabaye Sissoko
    gouffron Cisse marveaux

subs non of obertan ameobi williamson simpson gosling and the others who have put us where we are
