If you were in Alan Pardew’s shoes tomorrow when Sunderland come to St James’ Park, who would be in your team to play the Mackems? Who replaces Cabaye in midfield? Who comes in for the suspended Remy? Does Luuk De Jong start after signing on loan? Leave a comment below and have your say!

Here’s what I’ve come up with:

Krul

Debuchy – Williamson – S.Taylor – Santon

Sissoko – Tiote – Anita

Ben Arfa – Sh.Ameobi – Sa.Ameobi

I’d go with this team, keeping the shape that caused Norwich so many problems in midweek.

The main decision comes up front, with Shola Ameobi starting up front as Luuk De Jong is expected to be on the bench for his debut. Yoan Gouffran is also set to miss out, so his place in the starting XI goes to Sammy Ameobi, who played well against Norwich and understands the rivalry, being a Geordie himself.

That’s also the reasoning behind Steven Taylor’s inclusion, hopefully he can keep his head and not let the occasion get to him.

The rest of the team basically picks itself, with the bulk of creativity coming from Ben Arfa, who will undoubtedly be kicked and roughed up from the first whistle by the likes of Lee Cattermole and co.

I’d expect De Jong to replace Ameobi some time in the second half and any sort of positive performance could lead to him regaining the confidence and form that earned him a reputation as one of Holland’s best young strikers.
