Steven Taylor - Newcastle United News

If you were in Alan Pardew’s shoes come tomorrow night when we travel to Stoke to take on the Potters, who would you pick in your starting XI to take all three points off Tony Pulis’ side? Does Steven Taylor play with a broken nose? Does Guthrie keep his place instead of the injured Cheick Tiote? Who plays up front with Leon Best potentially out? Leave a comment below and have your say!

Here’s what I’ve come up with:

Krul

Simpson – S. Taylor – Coloccini – Santon

Obertan – Gosling – Cabaye – Gutierrez

Best – Ba

I’d drop Ryan Taylor to the bench and play Santon from the start for two reasons: Santon is taller and can cope with the physical presence of Stoke better than Ryan and Taylor’s free kicks aren’t going to be as useful against the huge Potters’ defence.

Also, Steven Taylor should wear whatever is necessary to protect his nose if it means him playing, because if Perch conceded four against Blackburn, Stoke will rip him apart.

Gosling should also get a chance for me, with him again being a more physical presence in the centre of midfield than the weaker Guthrie. If there is any possibility of playing Tiote, obviously I’d play him.

Ben Arfa belongs on the bench for this game, the thought of Ryan Shawcross and Andy Wilkinson trying to cope with the Frenchman’s dazzling skills and trickery is something to give anyone nightmares on Haloween.

    I'd go with something different

    Simpson Taylor Collo Santon
    Cabaye Guthrie
    Marveaux Ben Arfa Gutierrez
    Ba

We cant beat Stoke in the air so dominate them on the ground. We cant baby Ben Arfa forever, he's in the premier league he needs to see the physical side. Obertan dissapoints me so I'd go with the impressive Marveaux. Guthrie scored a peach in midweek so I'd keep him in the side, as he's a great footballer when he's confident.

Yeh agree as we need height in the box from Delaps throwins. I suppose most fans will know that stoke have the narrowest pitch in the premiership (70 yards) still within reglulations but still sad.

    Simpson – S. Taylor – Coloccini (C) – Santon

    Cabaye – Guthrie

Marveaux – Ben Arfa – Jonas

    Ba

A 4-2-3-1 formation on a narrow pitch will congest the middle of the park. I suspect Stoke will be deadly from set-pieces. If we can defend well; we can use the pace of our side to play fast, attacking football on the counter.

I wouldn't risk Tiote and Saylor, so i would move right footed Raylor to RCB for Saylor. And but Ben Arfa as RCM for Tiote but put him on the right side so he could swap around to the wing and play arounf abit with Stoke's defence partnerin with Obertan… i think this is a strong side which could cope with a win of a few goals difference. ! 🙂 Howay The Lads!

Also, I picked Marveaux instead of Gutierrez because Marveaux has more pace and skill, he can whip in some decent crosses (unlike Gutierrez) and would be able to cope with getting through their defence… 🙂

Stokie in peace 🙂 I look at your team and think how are they upp their in that Top 4, But then watching your players you see why your up their. Pards has got you playing some good stuff with let’s say limited amounts of stand out players. You have Tiote, Ba, Cabaye and Arfa who are stand out but then a cracking load of lads willing to work there nuts off. If you look at our squad Woodgate, Upson, Crouch, Huth, Kenwyn Jones, Palacios and Etherington all top players who have been playing in the Premiership for a lot longer then your lot yet can’t seem to play half as good. Okay Newcastle and Stoke have been the surprise packages this year and I hope both our teams continue to show what a real working team can achieve.

Best of luck apart from Tommorow 😉
