If you were in Alan Pardew’s shoes tomorrow, who would be in your starting XI to take on Manchester City at St James’ Park? Who replaces Fabricio Coloccini and Mathieu Debuchy in defence? Who plays up front? Leave a comment below and have your say!

Here’s what I’ve come up with:

Krul

Yanga-Mbiwa – Williamson – S.Taylor – Haidara

Sissoko – Tiote – Cabaye – Gouffran

Remy – Sh. Ameobi

I’d go with a 4-4-2 formation at home tomorrow, making minimal changes to the side that has been playing recently.

The main changes obviously come in defence, with Debuchy and Coloccini both unavailable. I think it’s important to play the two Englishmen at centre-back, as Steven Taylor looks massively uncomfortable when playing in the middle of defence with Yanga-Mbiwa. Massadio Haidara will replace Santon at left-back should the Italian not pass a fitness test.

The midfield four stays as strong as possible, with no place for Hatem Ben Arfa. Shape and discipline is key, so Ben Arfa will be reduced to the role of impact sub once again.

The front two seem to be the most effective at Pardew’s disposal at the minute, with Shola Ameobi causing problems physically, while Remy looks to exploit any mistakes with his pace.
