If you were in Alan Pardew’s shoes tomorrow afternoon, who would you pick for the game against Liverpool? Does Demba Ba start even if he’s not fully fit? Does James Perch continue in Cheick Tiote’s absence in midfield? Leave a comment below and have your say!

Here’s what I’ve come up with:

Krul

Simpson Coloccini S. Taylor Santon

Cabaye Anita Gutierrez

Ben Arfa Ba Cisse

I’d make a couple of changes to the team that was outplayed for most parts by West Brom last week. First, I’d replace Mike Williamson with Steven Taylor. Even though Williamson has been playing well recently, the thought of Luis Suarez running at him may not end well for those in black and white.

Vurnon Anita should come into midfield in place of James Perch, purely to give us some more control in the middle third. Perch is good when defending a lead because of his defensive abilities, but he isn’t much of a passer and can’t contribute when we go forward. Anita is more comfortable going both ways, therefore he should partner Cabaye and Gutierrez in the middle.

Demba Ba has to play if he is fit enough, even if it’s only for 45 minutes. Top scorer, main goal threat and massive physical presence all lead to him starting unless he is physically incapable.

If you don't start Ba, who would you start? If the Ba & Cisse combo is ever to happen, it clearly needs a lot of time to gel – how far along that path are we? If we don't continue it every chance we get, it will only take longer and longer. Is it worth continuing? – probably not a question for mid-season. We have made this 'bed' for ourselves, now we have to try to get some value out of it. I would play Shola with Cisse in the first half and then replace Cisse with Ba in the second.
