If you were in Alan Pardew’s shoes tomorrow afternoon, who would you pick for the FA Cup game against Brighton? Should some of the fringe players be given a chance to shine? Should we field a full-strength team to ensure progression to the fifth round? Leave a comment below and have your say!

Here’s what I’ve come up with:

Krul

Simpson – Williamson – Coloccini – Santon

Obertan – Guthrie – Cabaye – Gutierrez

Ben Arfa

Shola Ameobi

I’d go with a strong team to play Brighton and gain progression at the first time of asking. Replays are needless and will only clog up the fixture list more as we get to the “business end” of the season so first-time progression should be a high priority.

I’d play Ben Arfa in the hole behind Ameobi, with the France international being an excellent play maker and giving us a link between midfield and attack which we need. I’d also give Obertan another chance on the wing, with the former Man United winger losing his place in recent weeks to Ryan Taylor.

Shola Ameobi should get a start up front too, with the big striker lacking full match fitness and looking tired in the games he’s played recently. It should also be a good opportunity for him to get some goals, giving him a confidence boost and Alan Pardew something to think about when Ba and Cisse return from Africa.

I feel that Shane ferguson had some terrific games for us last season and has not been given an opportunity so far this season, I think this game is a good chance to show pardew and Newcastle what he is capable of.
