If you were in Alan Pardew’s shoes tomorrow, who would you pick in your starting XI to take on Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium? Who replaces the suspended Mike Williamson? Who comes in for the injured Vurnon Anita? Do we adopt the same style as we did in the Man United game?

Here’s what I’ve come up with:

Simpson Perch Coloccini Santon

Bigirimana Tiote Marveaux

Cisse Ba Sa. Ameobi

I’d go with a similar formation and style to the one that caused Man United so many problems on Wednesday, with a few forced alterations. I’d slot James Perch in at centre-back alongside Coloccini, with Williamson suspended.

Bigirimana played well against Man United and didn’t look fazed at all, so he will likely start again. Tiote comes in for the injured Anita, while Marveaux – who operated wide left against Man United – should come back into a more central role.

Sammy Ameobi can then replace Marveaux on the wing and keep Cisse – who looks to be getting back into some kind of form – up front with Ba down the middle. Gabriel Obertan is another option on the wing, but I’d go with Ameobi and introduce the Frenchman from the bench as in midweek.
