If you were in Alan Pardew’s shoes today against Sunderland, who would be in your team for the crunch clash? Does Shola Ameobi start boasting his impressive record of scoring against the mackems? Does Steven Taylor come back into defence? Leave a comment below and have your say!

Here’s what I’ve come up with:

Debuchy Yanga-Mbiwa Taylor Haidara

Cabaye Tiote

Gutierrez Sissoko Gouffran

I’d go with the above team, with Taylor and Debuchy coming back into defence after missing the loss to Benfica on Thursday night.

Cheick Tiote could be a risk with his disciplinary record in mind, but his aggression and tenacity could be more of a weapon for Newcastle should be keep his temper under control.

The attacking midfield trio of Sissoko, Gouffran and Gutierrez should be enough to break down a woeful Mackem defence, although Ben Arfa and Marveaux will both be on the bench if required.
