If you were in Alan Pardew’s shoes today, who would you pick in your starting XI for the game against Stoke? Does Papiss Cisse start up front if he’s not fully recovered from illness? Do Yanga-Mbiwa and Taylor resume their defensive partnership? Leave a comment and get involved below and have your say!

Here’s what I’ve come up with:

Elliot

Debuchy Yanga-Mbiwa S.Taylor Santon

Tiote Cabaye

Gutierrez Sissoko Gouffran

Cisse

I’d stick with the same team that has been playing in the Premier League in recent weeks, with Gouffran coming back into the side after being ineligible against Anzhi and Sissoko supporting Cisse up front.

Cisse would be the choice for the striker role, but if we are comfortable then take him off early to rest him ahead of the second leg against the Russians.

The same goes for Sissoko and Cabaye, Newcastle’s two key players who we need ahead of a massive game in four days time.

What do you think? Leave a comment below and have your say!

I agree in the main with the above team selection , however I think Jonas has been rather ineffective in the midfield role , although granted he scored a great goal against Chelsea. In the absence on Ben Arfa I would actually play Santon in wide midfield and play young Heideira at full back – he has really impressed in the Europa league – we would also be more potent and pacy going forward and have a better defender at full back. Be interesting to hear the views of my peers on this one !.

If Ben Arfa was playing I would have.

    Elliot
    Debuchy–Mbiwa–Taylor–Santon

    Ben Arfa–Tiote–Cabaye–Gouffran
    Sissoko
    Cisse

If Arfa is not playing I would have

    Elliot
    Debuchy–Mbiwa–Taylor–Santon
    ————Tiote—-Cabaye——-
    Gouffran———– Marveaux

    Sissoko—Cisse
