If you were in Alan Pardew’s shoes later today when Manchester City arrive at St James’ Park for the Premier League opener, who would you pick in your starting XI to take on the champions?

How many of the new signings make their debuts? Who plays up front? Which formation will work best against City? We want to hear your thoughts so leave a comment below giving your preferred team line-ups and get involved!

Here’s what I think:

Janmaat – Williamson – Coloccini – Haidara

Anita – Colback

Sissoko – Cabella – Gouffran

I’d go with a 4-2-3-1 formation like Newcastle have adopted all pre-season, with four of the new signings making their debuts from the start.

Daryl Janmaat will be number one choice right-back all season so he should start, while Massadio Haidara is the strongest option at left-back while Davide Santon is injured.

I’d have Vurnon Anita and Jack Colback anchoring the midfield and keeping Yaya Toure quiet, with new  man Remy Cabella providing chief support to Emmanuel Riviere up front. Cabella is perhaps more effective from a wing but with Sissoko on the right, the pair can interchange and cause problems.
