Fabricio Coloccini - Newcastle United News

If you were in Alan Pardew’s shoes come Saturday lunchtime, who would you pick in your starting XI’s to take on Chelsea at St James’ Park? Do we make any changes to the team which played well against Man United last week? Does Best start up front with Ba? Who replaces Gutierrez on the wing? Leave a comment below and have your say!

Here’s what I’ve come up with:

Krul

Simpson – S. Taylor – Coloccini – Santon

R. Taylor – Guthrie – Cabaye – Obertan

Ben Arfa

Ba

I’d have a slight reshuffle due to Gutierrez’s absence with Santon coming in at left back and Ryan Taylor switching to the right of midfield. This way Taylor can concentrate on delivering crosses towards Ba without worrying about the defensive side of things, where Santon will come in and cover.

Ben Arfa caused problems in the central area so keep him there and play Obertan from the left to accomodate Taylor on the right.

Best to come on from the bench if we are chasing the game, but there’s a very good chance for Newcastle to win this game, there’s never been a better time to play Chelsea.

Do you agree with this team? Leave a comment below and have your say!!

I think you have got to disturb the team personnel as little as possible Marley
I would match Chelski with 4-3-3

    Krul

    Simpson – S. Taylor – Coloccini – R. Taylor

    Obertan – Cabaye – Guthrie

    Ben Arfa Ba Sameobi

Why change the team so drastically ? I don't understand why people on Forums suggest these drastic changes sometimes. It's simple really. Straight swap, Sammy Ameobi for Gutierrez. Leave Ryan Taylor where he has exelled this season, you cannot and should not upset the balance of a defense that has been the best in the division so far. Leave Obertan on the right as he's struck up a partnership with Simpson and both have been outstanding. I would possibly think about bringing Best in because him and Ba would bully and terrorize Terry and Side-show-Bob the way they have been playing this season. That would be a little unfair on HBA tho' because he's been quality but I think you have to pick the side for the occasion and Chelsea would struggle against B & B up front. I think Chelsea's defense would breathe a sigh of relief if they saw Ba on his own up front with HBA just behind…………….so Besty in for me.

    Team against Chelsea:
    Krul
    Simpson-S.Taylor-Coloccini-R.Taylor
    Obertan-Cabaye-Guthrie-Sammy Ameobi
    Ben Arfa
    Ba

I hope and I am pretty sure this is the team AP would go for against Chelsea

    I reckon:

    Krul
    Simpson, S. Taylor, Collocini, Santon
    R. Taylor, Guthrie, Cabaye, Ben Arfa
    Best, Ba

Then Obertan can come on as sub. For me, it means Perch is less likely to come on, as that scares me

With the departure of Joey Barton to QPR and the absence of Guthrie due to injury, Ryan is left with a unique trait among our starting XI and he has proved that twice in as many games – the man is a dead ball specialist.
