If you were in Alan Pardew’s shoes for tomorrow’s game against Aston Villa, who would make it into your starting XI to take on Paul Lambert’s men? Would there be a start for Siem de Jong? Who plays up front? Which formation is best? Leave us a comment below and have your say!

Here’s what I think:

Krul

Janmaat – Williamson – Coloccini – Haidara

Sissoko- Colback

Cabella – De Jong – Gouffran

Riviere

The key for me is de Jong’s fitness. If he is fit enough to start or even play an hour, then the 4-2-3-1 formation will work best. De Jong can sit behind Emmanuel Riviere and provide support when Newcastle attack, while the wingers will enjoy having an extra body to find when they get out wide.

Moussa Sissoko would drop into a deeper position, giving him more space to pick the ball up and drive the team forward. Jack Colback has the discipline and energy to hold the fort when Sissoko goes forward and the Frenchman will be hard to mark when he pushes on from midfield.

Some have criticised Yoan Gouffran’s final product of late but away from home he is vital to give the team some balance and energy. Him and Remy Cabella swapped wings well against Man City last week and the switching could be the key to unlocking a good Villa defence.

I’d also pick Massadio Haidara over Paul Dummett as the Frenchman enjoyed a good pre-season and looked every bit as good as Dummett when called upon.

So that’s what I think, do you agree? Leave a comment and get involved below!

I think Newcastle's problem will certainly be in defence. It may not be facts, just my opinion, but I feel Williamson is just not good enough at centre back. Colo is quality, but he needs quality around him as well to keep clean sheets, or win games. Tim Krul is a fabulous goalkeeper, but his defence time and time again lets him down. Newcastle should invest in a quality centre back to assist Colo, and maybe then they will break into the top 6 again. Going forward the side looks good, but I'm weary about their defensive qualities.

    Totally agree with you, Marley.

I would give Aarons a 20 minute run-in at the end of the game. Let him switch places with Gouff.

Anita can come on for one of the two DM’s after 70 minutes as well.

Also give Perez some time. 15 minutes or so.

    Howay the lads!

    If I was Alan Pardew I would play;

    Rivierre

    Cabella De Jong Ben Arfa

    Sissoko Tiote

    Haidara Collo Mbiwa Janmaat

    Krul

But he won't play Ben Arfa so I would play

    Rivierre
    Aarons De Jong Cabella

    Sissoko Tiote

    Haidara Mbiwa Collo Janmaat

    Krul
