If you were in Alan Pardew’s shoes tomorrow, who would make your starting line-up for the game against Southampton? Does Yoan Gouffran start on the left of midfield? Is there a place for Cheick Tiote? Who leads the line for the Magpies?

Here’s what I’ve come up with:

Janmaat – Williamson – Coloccini – Haidara

Sissoko – Colback – Anita

Cabella – Riviere – Gouffran

Firstly, I’d change the formation. A 4-3-3 system away from home is quite risky but it has the best chance of getting goals. So far this season, Riviere has lacked the support to create anything, so putting Gouffran and Cabella up with him may help force something. If Rolando Aarons had been fit, I’d have gone with him over Gouffran but a hamstring injury has sidelined the 18-year-old.

The formation also allows Moussa Sissoko to return to his strongest position, rather than trying to affect the game from a wing. In centre midfield with the discipline and energy of Colback and Anita, the powerful midfielder can get forward and affect the game more than he would from any other position.

My back four wouldn’t change, with Haidara continuing at left-back ahead of Paul Dummett. His energy is exceptional and he can also get forward and support the attack when needed.

That’s what I think, do you agree? Leavea a comment below and get involved!
