If you were in Alan Pardew’s shoes when Everton come to town later today, who would be in your starting line-up to take on the Toffees at St James’ Park? Does Cheick Tiote return to the starting eleven? Who plays up front? Which formation will get the job done? Leave a comment below and have your say! Here’s what I’ve come up with: Alnwick Janmaat – S.Taylor – Coloccini – Haidara Sissoko – Tiote – Colback Cabella – Perez – Gutierrez I’d go with a 4-3-3 formation, designed to get the best out of Moussa Sissoko in midfield and provide maximum support to Ayoze Perez up front. Sissoko is protected by the returning Cheick Tiote, allowing him to power forward and create chances. At the back, I’d choose Massadio Haidara at left-back ahead of Paul Dummett, even if Dummett is available. Haidara is equally good (if not better) than Dummett and two games in three days mean rotation is the best bet where you can afford it. Remy Cabella would get a start on the right wing as it’s a home game and Newcastle should be the team forcing the issue and pressuring a depleted Everton back-line. If Antolin Alcaraz plays for Everton, Ayoze Perez could have a field day against the physically-limited South American. Finally, I’d start Jonas Gutierrez. At home, in front of 50,000+ Geordies giving him a rousing reception in his first appearance since overcoming testicular cancer, it could be a masterstroke.
