If you were Rafa Benitez tomorrow, who would make your Newcastle team to face Manchester City?

Who captains the side? Who starts up front? Does Jonjo Shelvey return to the side?

Here’s what I’ve come up with:

Anita РMbemba РLascelles РDummett

Sissoko – Tiote – Shelvey – Townsend

Cisse – Mitrovic

I’d make a couple of changes to the side that beat Swansea, with Shelvey coming back into midfield to replace Jack Colback. Newcastle need his creativity in the middle, and it’s no coincidence that they scored two goals when he was introduced at the weekend.

Andros Townsend should start ahead of Gini Wijnaldum on the wing, with two strikers up front to cause City’s vulnerable back four plenty of problems. Mitrovic has to start, because Cisse supported by Wijnaldum simply isn’t strong enough. I’d also pick Siem de Jong ahead of Wijnaldum when looking to the bench in the second half.

It’s always going to be tough to get anything from Manchester City, but if you set a team up to sit back and worry about their attacking talent, it’s not going to work. Attack is the best form of defence against City, especially if Vincent Kompany is missing.
