If you were in Alan Pardew’s shoes tonight when Newcastle travel to Arsenal, who would be in your starting XI to take on the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium? Who plays up front with the absence of Luuk de Jong and Papiss Cisse? Which formation should the Magpies play? Leave a comment below and get involved, we want to hear from you!

Here’s what I’ve come up with:

Debuchy – Williamson – Coloccini – Dummett

Sissoko – Anita – Tiote – Gouffran

Remy – Sh. Ameobi

One thing is vital to the team selection tonight – no 3-5-2 experimenting. The system was abolished last week when Cisse was replaced by Debuchy, so a four at the back would be the best option for tonight.

If Moussa Sissoko is fit enough to start then he should come in on the right of midfield. The powerful midfielder has been a big loss for Newcastle and his presence will be needed against an Arsenal side that have the guile and creativity to pull holes in Newcastle’s defence.

The rest of the midfield picks itself, with Hatem Ben Arfa back in France and no one else really pushing for a first-team place.

Same story with the front two. Loic Remy will be the main hope of scoring at the Emirates and Shola Ameobi is his only realistic partner. Youngster Adam Armstrong would be a foolish pick from Pardew because of the occasion and opposition. He needs to start his first Newcastle game at home in front of fans that want to see him succeed, not away in front of 60,000 Gunners.

I think if you come to us with 4-4-2 you could struggle with keeping the ball in midfield. I think your best bet of a result is 5 in midfield and use Remy's pace on the counter attack. Let's hope for a good game though boys. All the best.

I thought that, too but the only problem is we don't have a 5th midfielder that's much good! Dan Gosling the only option really…

    I would go with:
    Debuchy Williamson Colocini Dummett
    Sissoko Marveaux Gouffran
    Shola Remy

I think that Marveaux can give us the much needed creativity in the midfield to create chances for the team and if given a chance to play a No10 type role through the middle he would come good and make goals for the team. Anita is not good enough and doesnt offer the team anything bar running around aimlessly.
