Alan Pardew has spoken to the media ahead of Sunday’s game against Aston Villa.

Make no bones about it, we need a win. The Newcastle boss welcomed the return of French striker Loic Remy, who he described on Friday as “one of the stars of the Premiership” and was confident of victory against Aston Villa.

Alan Pardew, Newcastle United manager (Q: Do you think you’ve missed Loic Remy’s presence up front over the last few games?) “I think that would be fair to say. I think when you lose the quality of a striker who has played as well as he has this year, he’s been one of the stars of the Premiership, it’s going to be significant. But we’ve also missed Cheick Tiote and (Fabricio) Coloccini just as much and having them back and around it has been good.”

(Q: Your home form hasn’t been great this season and Aston Villa’s away form has been good, is that something you’re wary of?) “Well they are sort of players that appreciate the space that you can get as an away side, ie in behind the opposition and that’s where they’re good. They’ve got players who are fast on the break and we need to make sure that we lock the door. If we can lock the door we can score against this team and although they’ve got a good away record I’m fair confident that we can get the win we need.”
