Shola Ameobi does not know where he will be playing his football next season. The Newcastle veteran has spent his entire career at St James’ Park but is set to leave Tyneside when his contract expires at the end of the current campaign. Ameobi has made 315 appearances for the club he progressed through the youth team ranks at, scoring 52 goals along the way. But the Nigeria international has came in for some criticism of late, with many pointing the finger at the powerful forward’s goal ratio and making him a scapegoat for Newcastle’s lack of goals. Alan Pardew’s side have netted just seven times since the turn of the year and Ameobi’s first league goal of the season came last weekend in the 1-2 defeat against Swansea. The Toon boss knows he must overhaul his attackers in the summer, with Papiss Cisse injured and Loic Remy set to find an alternative permanent move. Luuk de Jong is also set to return to Borussia Moenchengladbach when his loan deal expires, leaving Ameobi as the only remaining option. A move to the MLS has been talked about, with a number of American sides keen to take a famous name from the Premier League across the pond.
