Newcastle transfer target Dimitri Payet has been transfer listed by Marseille, opening up possibility for a move to Tyneside.

Payet has fallen out with Marseille boss Jose Anigo and has been told he can start looking for another club, with Newcastle keen on his services.

The former Lille man is a similar kind of player to Hatem Ben Arfa – a tricky winger who can create chances from wide positions as well as frustrate with his inconsistency.

The 27-year-old may be available for a fee between £5-8m but Newcastle are understood to have other targets as well as the Frenchman.

Spurs winger Andros Townsend is high on Alan Pardew’s list of wanted men, while Tenerife striker Ayoze Perez and free agent Jack Colback could sign for the Geordies this week.

Frustrating for supporters when players are at right age, but with the cut price/half price policy the players are (by the time) the price is right, the player is too old and the excuses are trotted out. 2 tears on the last exciting forward but he's 29 now and that's outside of the clubs policy. (another years salary saved) Lets just muddle through policy. Steve Bruce may not be the prettiest manager but he's direct and the players, supporters respect him, no excuses. Perhaps he would be to direct and dominant for the owner, but I feel he would suit the Newcastle club and the supporters, disciplined and aggressive is not in the alan Pardew tacics imo a missing ingredient for success..
