Despite the transfer window shutting over a month ago, Newcastle have added a player to their youth ranks today. 16-year-old Stefan Broccoli signs for the Magpies and will join the academy squad at St James’ Park.

The teenager has previously been at Arsenal but was released earlier this season and had a trial at Newcastle as he searched for another club.

After a meeting with Mike Ashley and Academy coach Peter Beardsley, Broccoli has decided to sign on at Newcastle and will go into Beardsley’s squad for the rest of the season.

Perhaps this is the first example of life without former negotiation Chief Joe Kinnear, who undoubtedly would not have been able to get the signing of Englishman Broccoli “over the line”.
