Goalkeeper Tim Krul is set to return for Newcastle United in their pre-season friendly against Rangers at the Ibrox Stadium on Tuesday 6th August, according to his latest Tweet.

Newcastles number 1 suffered a rather painful dislocated shoulder in the Tyne-Wear derby on the 14th April in which Newcastle lost 3-0, and has since had surgery on it, as well as going through an intense training program whilst Newcastle were on their pre-season tour of Portugal.

Deputising in his place has been Rob Elliot with youngster Jack Alnwick playing second fiddle and, while Elliot has his moments, the return of Krul will surely be a huge boost to the morale of the club and will give a much needed boost to the Geordie faithful as the summer singings (or lack thereof) saga continues.

With the return of Krul, and Yanga-Mbiwa gelling as well Captain Coloccini staying another season at least, this season is looking just a tiny bit brighter, defense wise. Particularly with fan favourite Steven Taylor alongside him, Matheiu Debuchy (who scored against St Mirren) at right back and David Santon (who was singled by the Special One himself) at left back.

Now we just need to sort out striking out…
