The draw for the inaugural Schalke Cup has been made and Newcastle will be part of the opening and closing games of the pre-season friendly tournament. Alan Pardew’s side will first take on Spanish outfit Malaga on Saturday, 2nd August at 3.30pm, before entertaining the hosts Schalke on Sunday, 3rd August at 5.30pm. The other side in the four-team warm-up is Sam Allardyce’s West Ham but the two English sides have not been drawn to play each other. All games in the tournament will be held at Schalke’s impressive Veltins Arena, which boasts a 61,482 capacity and hosted the Champions League final in 2004. The points system in the competition is set to be different to normal, with three points awarded to a match winner and any drawn matches going straight to a penalty shootout. The winner of the shootout will get two points, with the loser getting nothing.
