Tim Krul, 8 – World class double save moments before Sissoko’s opener. The match would have been entirely different had Newcastle fallen behind early. At fault for Hull’s goal but save makes up for it. Mathieu Debuchy, 8 – One of the better performances from the Frenchman. Hull’s formation suited him well and allowed him to attack more. Nice assist for the first goal and never in trouble defensively. Mike Williamson, 7 – Nothing too spectacular to do for “Iron Mike”. Looked solid with Yanga-Mbiwa next to him, which is important as Coloccini’s Newcastle career comes to a close. Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, 7 – Had a good game alongside Williamson. Used his physical prowess well and imposed himself on Shane Long when he needed to. Paul Dummett, 7 – Another good game for the youngster. His set pieces look more threatening than almost anyone else’s and he got forward well. Unlucky not to score at the end. Moussa Sissoko, 9 – Man of the Match. Was everywhere across the pitch, using his physicality and power to cause all kinds of problems. Newcastle’s main playmaker now Cabaye is gone, really stepped up to the mark and deserved his goals. Cheick Tiote, 8 – Another imposing performance from the middle of the pitch from the Ivorian. Looks an entirely new player with the armband on. Sprayed passes around for fun in the middle and tackled with his usual aggression. Vurnon Anita, 7 – Neat and tidy as always. Barely puts a foot wrong in midfield and gives Newcastle the speed and agility in the middle to open up gaps ahead of him. Nice to see him get a goal, too. Yoan Gouffran, 6 – Tried his best on the left-wing but looks to be missing full match fitness. Luuk de Jong, 7 – Most of the headlines and reports won’t mention the Dutchman but he looked good up front with Remy. The partnership looks to be coming together nicely and de Jong dropped into space well at times. Loic Remy, 7 – Didn’t have too many chances all afternoon but took his goal well. Always looks dangerous and his movement towards the left channel causes problems, especially for a back three like Hull’s.
