Newcastle United striker Ayoze Perez scooped the “best revelation” and “best attacking midfielder” awards at a La Liga and Liga Adelante awards ceremony last night. The 21-year-old – who scored his first goal for Newcastle against Spurs on Sunday afternoon – bagged the awards after impressing last season while at Tenerife. Perez notched 16 goals as the Islanders finished 11th in Spain’s second division before sealing a move to Newcastle as clubs from around Europe battled for his signature. The youngster flew to Spain to attend the ceremony after his goal sealed the win against Tottenham and will fly back today ahead of Newcastle’s Capital One Cup clash against Manchester City on Wednesday. Since arriving on Tyneside in the summer, Perez has impressed many with his work ethic and promising talent. He has made a number of excellent cameo appearances from the bench in the Premier League and was close to marking his debut with a goal against Man City. After scoring a wonderful individual effort against Carlisle in a training ground friendly, Perez got off the mark for the first team on Sunday when he headed in Remy Cabella’s cross for the winner.
