Alan Pardew says Newcastle are determined to get back to winning ways at Stoke on Monday.

The Magpies suffered their first defeat of the season in a 4-3 extra-time loss to Blackburn Rovers in the Carling Cup on Wednesday.

He told a press conference: “The players know when they’ve performed badly and I don’t think that was the case the other night, I thought we did enough to win the game.

“Three key decisions wrong, which we can show on video to our players, emphasises that, and it’s rare for a referee to get that many wrong.

“We haven’t lost confidence, we actually grew during the game and if anything it’s probably put a bit of fire in our belly in terms of the manner of the defeat.

“It was only one late loss of concentration that’s cost us, so we go into Stoke somewhat unscathed, although we’re disappointed of course because we wanted to win that trophy, or have a good go at it.”
