Alan Pardew has been hit with a seven-match ban and fined £60,000 by the FA, after headbutting Hull City’s David Meyler.

The first three matches of the punishment will be a stadium ban, meaning Pardew cannot be anywhere inside the stadium when Newcastle play, while the remaining four will be a touchline ban.

The punishment comes after Pardew pleaded guilty to the charge of improper conduct and vowed to become less aggressive on the touchline, after a series of unsavoury incidents involving the Newcastle boss.

With no benchmark for this kind of offence, the FA have used Pardew as an example and the Newcastle boss will now only return to the touchline for his sides’ final three games of the season.
