Alan Pardew has welcomed Yohan Cabaye’s application since a proposed move to Arsenal failed to materialise.

The French midfielder’s head was turned by interest from Arsenal who had a bid rejected and Cabaye was then left out of the Newcastle side while the transfer remained a possbility.

Cabaye was left out of the French squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and Belarus and instead has been working hard on his fitness for the past 10 days with a view to featuring against Villa this weekend.

“Yohan Cabaye stayed behind and has had a full week here,” Newcastle’s manager told the Chronicle. “He’s been able to get a lot of work done. His wife has just had a baby too.

“Yohan has just got on with his work and settled down. He’s getting on with the job in hand. He’s been terrific and he’s just got his head down to get on with life.”
