Newcastle United are set to continue spending in France as they eye a trio of deals for the coming weeks.

The Magpies have already signed Ayoze Perez from Tenerife, Jack Colback on a free from Sunderland and Siem de Jong from Dutch giants Ajax.

But Alan Pardew and co. are set to return to Ligue 1 to try and prise Clement Grenier and Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon, as well as long-term target Remy Cabella from Montpellier.

Most likely to be the next signing is striker Lacazette, who is in talks with Newcastle after a poor season left Lyon outside the Champions League places. A quick, nimble forward, Lacazette is seen as one of France’s next generation of top strikers and could move to Newcastle for a fee around £10m.

However, the 23-year-old’s agent has today said that the striker wants to move to a club in the Champions League, which would of course rule out a move to Tyneside. Whether any Champions League clubs are interested or not remains to be seen though, so Newcastle’s pursuit may not be over just yet.

With Siem de Jong set to occupy the “number 10” role in attacking midfield, Lacazette could play as a lone striker or from a wing, depending if Newcastle secure one of their other targets.

Cabella and Grenier both play in a similar position so logic would suggest that the Magpies will only get one of them. It’s hard to say which one is more likely, as any move for Cabella hinges on France’s progress in the World Cup.

The 24-year-old is the only outfielder in Didier Deschamps’ squad that hasn’t had any playtime in Brazil, which further strengthens his chances of swapping Montpellier for Newcastle in the near future.

It is now up to Lee Charnley and Alan Pardew to get the signings over the line in time for pre-season friendlies, which start at the end of this month.

Lacazette's agent has stated that he will only be joining a club with Champions League football or they are close to achieving it.

Cabella and Grenier don't play in a similar position.. Grenier plays more in the middle as a playmaker whereas Cabella likes to terrorize fullbacks and cuts in from the wings.. both Grenier and Cabella is required !
