Newcastle United midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa will not be moving to the Middle East this summer, despite interest from a number of wealthy Arab clubs.

Ben Arfa’s agent has confirmed that any offers for his client will be turned down as the player wants to continue to play in Europe – whether that is with Newcastle or not remains to be seen.

The 27-year-old has one year remaining on his Toon contract but could be on the move this summer after falling out of favour with manager Alan Pardew. The Frenchman only started 13 games for Newcastle last season, despite being one of the most individually talented players St James’ Park has seen in the last 20 years.

There were rumours of rifts between player and manager over the course of the last season and Ben Arfa was left out of France’s World Cup squad which could make the player decide his footballing future lies elsewhere.
