Newcastle have made an 8m Euros bid for long-time target Remy Cabella. The Montpellier midfielder has been a Toon target for over a year now and the time could be right to bring the tricky playmaker to Tyneside, after his club endured a terrible campaign. Montpellier finished the Ligue 1 season in 15th place – just two points above the relegation zone and the timing could be right for Newcastle to cherry pick one of the former French champions’ star men. Rolland Courbis – the Montpellier manager – is resigned to losing his top players but will hope his club can hold out for a fee around 10m for his crown jewel. The poor season has made Cabella’s price drop to almost half of his asking price this time last year but Montpellier Chairman Laurent Nicollin is determined to put Cabella off a move to Newcastle. The extroverted Nicollin also tried to stop Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa from moving across the English Channel back in 2012, before the move eventually went through. But despite the chairman doing all he can to stop the move, there is one man who is encouraging Cabella to move to Newcastle – former midfielder Yohan Cabaye. The PSG man moved back to France from Newcastle earlier this year but is now trying to help his old side by telling Cabella positive things about the club. Hopefully Cabaye’s influence will tempt Cabella into wanting the switch enough to force it past Nicollin and give Newcastle some much needed creativity next season. Alan Pardew is targeting a number of attacking players to boost his front line and further scouting is understood to have already begun.
