Ross County boss Derek Adams admits he is exploring the possibility of landing Newcastle starlet Mehdi Abeid.

The 20-year-old has failed to make an impact at St James’ Park and is expected to be released when his contract expires at the end of the season. Abeid has spent time on loan at St Johnstone this season but the club are not willing to sign him on a permanent deal.

County boss Adams has jumped at the chance to try and lure the player, but is unsure as of yet if a deal can be reached.

Adams said in the Daily Record: “He’s someone we are interested in but whether we can get him is a different matter.

“We have made contact with Newcastle and we’ll see what happens.

“He is technically gifted and likes to drive forward from midfield. He can score goals and create chances.

“He is also the right age. I was impressed with him in the game against us, but I was aware of him before then and watched him a few times.”
