Saturday afternoon sees Newcastle return to Premier League action as Mauricio Pochettino brings his Southampton side to St James’ Park for a 3 o’ clock kickoff. The Magpies will be looking to build on their famous 1-0 win at Old Trafford last time out, but Southampton are in a similar vein of form as they push for the European places themselves. Newcastle will have to cope without Yohan Cabaye, who picked up his fifth booking of the season before netting the winner at Manchester United, so Vurnon Anita will likely take his place in midfield, with Shola Ameobi returning up front. Moussa Sissoko is one booking away from a similar one-match suspension but should continue on the right of midfield, a place where he is looking increasingly threatening on recent form. Other than Cabaye, Alan Pardew has a full squad to choose from, with only Ryan Taylor sidelined with a long-term ligament injury. As for the visitors, their goalkeeper woes continue with Artur Boruc out with a fractured hand. Paulo Gazzaniga deputised last week and hardly impressed but Pochettino has no other options as Kelvin Davis is also injured. Victor Wanyama, Nathaniel Clyne, Danny Fox and Guly Do Prado are all missing with injury and Morgan Schneiderlin will face a late fitness test on a pelvic problem. A win for Newcastle could move them as high as fifth come the end of the weekend, while a win for Southampton will take them above the Geordies in the hunt for European places.
