After securing their place in the Europa League group stages on Thursday night, Newcastle return to Premier League action tomorrow afternoon when they take on struggling Aston Villa. Paul Lambert’s new side have been poor in their opening two games and prop up the Premier League table as it stands. Even former Magpie Shay Given looks affected by the Villans’ recent form, making two howlers last week as Everton ran out comfortable winners. The main news coming out of Tyneside this week is that there has been no change to the squad after the transfer window slammed shut. Only Vurnon Anita has arrived during the summer months to challenge the first team regularly, however Alan Pardew has managed to hang on to key players such as Hatem Ben Arfa, Yohan Cabaye, Demba Ba and Cheick Tiote. Tiote however will miss the visit of Villa, as he is struggling with a calf injury that has kept him out of the last two games. He will be joined by Ryan Taylor on the treatment table, as the utility man damaged knee ligaments in the win over Atromitos. Pardew made the late decision not to bring in a replacement for Taylor, instead choosing to rely on James Perch and James Tavernier for the upcoming months. Newcastle should welcome back their other star players though, with Ba, Ben Arfa and Cabaye all fit and available after resting as the rest of the squad did the job on Thursday night. Haris Vuckic will also hope to be involved after bagging the winner three days ago. Paul Lambert may give a debut to new signing Joe Bennett, who joined from Middlesbrough before the transfer deadline. Jordan Bowery could also play some part and Ciaran Clark is available after serving a one-match suspension. Villa will most likely field another youthful looking side, with many academy graduates making up the starting XI. Three former Magpies will also be involved, with Given, Charles N’Zogbia and Stephen Ireland all hoping to cause an upset against their old club. This fixture last season seen Papiss Cisse bag his first goal for Newcastle and he will be hoping to get off the mark against the same team this season. The Senegal striker has been off-form early on this campaign but will be hoping for a kick start against Villa.
