Newcastle United have confirmed Real Sociedad will visit St James’ Park on August 10, one week before the new Premier League season kicks off.

The Spanish side come to Tyneside after Newcastle have been around the world on their pre-season warm-up. The Magpies play two games in New Zealand before competing in the inaugural Schalke Cup in Germany. Alan Pardew’s side also play Oldham Athletic, Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield Town before hosting Sociedad as the new season closes in.

Jagoba Arrasate’s side finished seventh in La Liga last season and competed in the Champions League, where they were eliminated in the group stage that also included Manchester United, Bayer Leverkusen and Shakhtar Donetsk.

Sociedad will provide arguably the sternest test for Newcastle this pre-season and will also be the opposition in Newcastle’s only home warm-up match.

Here’s the full schedule:

15th July – Oldham Athletic (A)

22nd July – Sydney FC (A)

26th July – Wellington Phoenix (A)

30th July – Sheffield Wednesday (A)

2nd – 3rd August – Two games, Schalke Cup (A)
