It was another good week for Romain Amalfitano, as the on-loan Newcastle winger scored his second goal in two weeks for Dijon as they beat Clermont in the French second division. Amalfitano is due back in England in a number of weeks but could have strengthened his chances of a permanent spell at Dijon with his goal. James Tavernier and Haris Vuckic were on the winning side again, as Rotherham United seen off Swindon Town. The Millers now travel to Preston in the League 1 playoffs as they look to clinch a place in the Championship next season. Tavernier played the full 90 minutes in the 2-1 win, while Vuckic came off the bench with 20 minutes left. In Scotland, Conor Newton played the full game as St. Mirren beat Ross County 1-0 but fellow Toon loanee Adam Campbell was again an unused sub. Shane Ferguson was not part of the Birmingham City squad that remarkably stayed in the Championship this weekend, as Paul Caddis’ injury-time header saved the Blues from relegation to the third tier of English football. Former Newcastle midfielder Lee Clark is in charge of Birmingham and celebrated wildly as they stayed up on goal difference. Mehdi Abeid and Curtis Good weren’t in action for Panathanaikos and Dundee United respectively, as injury kept them sidelined. Jonas Gutierrez’s loan spell at Norwich City isn’t going well and he was again unused in the Canaries’ draw at Stamford Bridge. The Argentina winger may well have a second relegation on his CV as Norwich struggle to avoid the drop into the Championship.
