Hatem Ben Arfa and Newcastle United have mutually agreed to terminate the player’s contract.

The Frenchman is back in his homeland and has been seen training with OGC Nice, after Hull City terminated his loan spell at the KC Stadium earlier this month.

Ben Arfa had six months left on his deal at St James’ Park and would have joined another club for free in the summer, so an agreement to prematurely end the contract hardly comes as a surprise.

Also not surprising is the fact that it all went sour for the former Marseille man at Hull and Newcastle and it won’t be a surprise when he falls out with the Nice coach in the coming months.

Newcastle fans will have fond memories of what he can do when he tries though, most notably his goals against Bolton, Blackburn and Everton.

It’s a shame that Ben Arfa’s attitude was never close to matching his undoubted ability, something that is now threatening to seriously damage the 26-year-old’s career.
