It has been confirmed that West Ham United will be the fourth team to participate in the inaugural Schalke 04 cup, which forms part of Newcastle’s pre-season preparations. As always when Newcastle meet West Ham, it will be a clash which sees many faces return to their former clubs. Alan Pardew is a former Hammers boss and Sam Allardyce was in charge at Newcastle before being sacked. Andy Carroll and Kevin Nolan are still popular figures on Tyneside, despite leaving the club two years ago. The four-team competition also includes hosts Schalke and Malaga and will take place over the weekend of August 2-3 – two weeks before the Premier League season kicks off again.
