Arsenal are in talks with Newcastle over the sale of Mathieu Debuchy. The 28-year-old right-back is currently representing France in the World Cup but could be on his way to London after 18 months as a Newcastle player.

The former Lille defender has regularly attracted interest since joining Newcastle, with both PSG and Roma known admirers.

However, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger now sees Debuchy as the man to replace Bacary Sagna, who has joined Manchester City on a free transfer.

It was thought that the Gunners had Ivory Coast right-back Serge Aurier as their first choice target but Debuchy’s age and Premier League experience has seen him overtake the 21-year-old in Wenger’s plans.

Newcastle are looking to get around £12m for their man – more than twice the fee they paid Lille in January 2013.

Wenger won’t pay 12 m, Newcastle won’t bulge and Debuchy will end up somewhere else. A la Cabaye.
