St James Park - Newcastle United News

BBC football pundit Mark Lawrenson has predicted that Newcastle will lose to Spurs on Sunday, which is probably a good omen for us to keep our unbeaten run on track!

He told BBC Sport Online: “Newcastle are still unbeaten this season, although they have had the rub of the green a couple of times against QPR and, more recently, Wolves.

“I am just wondering whether this might be the game where their luck runs out and I quite fancy Tottenham here, especially because Spurs will be buoyed by beating Arsenal in their last outing.

“Let’s not be too hard on Newcastle, though, because their central defensive pairing of Fabricio Coloccini and Steven Taylor does look very strong, and Yohan Cabaye has impressed me in midfield. Tim Krul is clearly going to be a top-class goalkeeper too.

“But I see this as being the game which might make Newcastle boss Alan Pardew re-evaluate their season after an excellent start. They are not a top four side and, if they finish in the top half of the table with the squad they have got, then they have had an outstanding season.

“For me, Harry Redknapp’s side still look the most likely to get fourth place, and I would expect them to underline that by winning at St James’ Park.

“Prediction: 0-2″

I'm a spurs fan but i don't see this as a 2-0 win for us, newcastle will score in this game. The man's off his head…"if they finish in the top half of the table with the squad they have got, then they have had an outstanding season". Outside of both manchester clubs, chelsea, spurs and liverpool anyone can finish anywhere and i put newcastle way above the lilkes of stoke, everton and villa. Newcastle have a good midfield and a good defence, so for me a top tem finish is an easy target. Both teams like to attack so i'm going for a crowd pleasing, neutral loving 3-2 win..for spurs of course. I like newcastle, have done since the keegan teams, so i hope you have a great season…other than the two games you play us of coure.

Being a Toon fan we all know this is a defining match in the Toon's season, but every match we have played so far in this campaign has been said to have so far.I think Lawrenson's judgement is a fair one, we are used to false dawns let's hope this is not another.Avoiding relegation is top priority this season but let's hang on for the bumpy ride and pray this squad Pardew has assembled lays the foundation for future success.

Also a Spurs fan. I agree that Lawro's prediction of a win is usually the kiss of death. All his guest forecasters (who are usually completely outside football) do better than him! As for Newcastle, I'm still puzzled why it was thought that Pardew is better than Houghton, but they have had a good start. Difficult to say where they will end up until they have coped with more injuries and played some of the top sides. Winning is a habit though, so the record to date should not be underestimated. I'm going for a 2-2 draw, but a lot will depend on the injury situation in both camps.
