Former Newcastle United striker Peter Lovenkrands has joined Championship promotion-chasers Birmingham City. The Dane, 32, was released from St James’ Park at the start of June and will link up with former Magpie Lee Clark, who succeeded another former Newcastle manager, Chris Hughton, as manager of the Blues. A fan favourite in his time on Tyneside, the former Rangers man leaves with the Geordie Nation’s well wishes behind him and should get the chance to re-establish himself as a top player in Birmingham’s side. One of the fondest memories the Toon Army will have of their former number 11 was when Lovenkrands returned from Denmark just days after his father had passed away and scored against West Bromwich Albion. Wheeling away with his fingers pointed to the heavens and with tears streaming from his eyes, Lovenkrands captured a place in many fans’ hearts for years to come. Good luck at Birmingham Peter.
