Papiss Cisse has reportedly agreed a deal with Newcastle United to wear the club’s new shirt, complete with Wonga logo. Can you believe that? Just a day after pictures emerge showing Cisse in a casino – something the Muslim belief strictly prohibits – the striker performs a U-turn and is now willing to wear the new shirt and join in the Magpies’ remaining pre-season games. The whole debacle has made the Senegal international look ridiculous as the pictures prove he was guilty of picking and choosing which Muslim beliefs he obeys and he now faces a period of rebuilding his reputation. There were rumours last week that Cisse was chasing a pay rise as he believes he should be rewarded for being the main striker at Newcastle, although that idea now seems dead in the water after this embarrassment. Cisse must now rejoin his team mates as they conclude their pre-season fixtures and recapture his form quickly enough to make the fans forget about the whole situation. He could be joined by new signings soon too, as Newcastle close in on a new front man. Loic Remy is favourite to sign from QPR, while Darren Bent and Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis are also being linked with a move to Tyneside. More movement is expected by next week, as Joe Kinnear grapples with his new job and attempts to bag his first signing as Director of Football at St James’ Park.
