Newcastle United will play Gillingham in the Capital One Cup 2nd Round.

The tie will take place at Priestfield Stadium in the week commencing 25th August and the Magpies will be looking to make it to the next round as they did last year, when they beat Morecambe at the same stage.

With the board and manager at Newcastle clearly stating that a cup run is not a priority this season, Alan Pardew will likely use the game against the League Two side as a chance to field some of his fringe players.

Goals from Shola and Sammy Ameobi were enough to see off Morecambe in the second round last season before Newcastle were eventually beaten at the fourth round stage by Manchester City.
