The new season is drawing ever closer and expectation on up here on Tyneside is higher that it has been for a good few years, although not over the top expectation. Starting with Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday teatime at SJP, Andre Villas Boas starts his Tottenham career replacing one time England favourite and the big mouthed Harry Redknapp.

Last season this fixture finished in a 2-2 draw with a stunning strike from Shola Ameobi in the last few minutes grabbed Newcastle a deserved draw. Tottenham twice took the lead firstly from the spot through Rafael Van Der Vaart after Steven Taylor’s clumsy challenge on Emmanuel Adebayor. Newcastle pulled level just after half time after some great work from Jonas Gutierrez down the left his crossed found Demba Ba on the back post to plunder the ball home despite the best efforts of Spurs goalkeeper Brad Friedal to try to grab the ball from behind the line. 20 Minutes later Tottenham regained the lead through a neat turn and finish from Jermain Defoe, with the game looking like ending that way a little flick through from Yohan Cabaye and a superb left footed strike from Shola at the gallowgate end grabbed the Toon Army a well earned point.

Three points would be great this weekend and would be fantastic start to the season, can you see us getting the points this weekend? Would you be happy with a result similar to last season’s fixture. Sitting here now I would take a point this weekend.

As mentioned Newcastle come into this season with the right to be more optimistic given the excursions of last season but with also a Europa League campaign to focus on as well, what do you think would be a satisfactory season for Newcastle?
