Newcastle have moved to strengthen their development squad with the signing of 18-year old Coventry City midfielder Gael Bigirimana. The Congolese-born teenager arrives for a fee rumoured to be around the £1m mark and will likely spend the season in the reserve and academy squads, although a loan back to the Ricoh Arena could also be a possibility.
A tough-tackling central midfielder, Bigirimana is expected to have a bright future ahead of him. Those at Coventry are distraught at losing one of their brightest talents so early in his career, despite the midfielder making only 28 appearances for his former club last season.
The deal is expected to be completed once “Bigi” passes a medical on Tyneside and he becomes the second academy player to sign for the Magpies after Australian teenager Curtis Good joined from A-League side Melbourne Heart.
