We may be only a few days away from the new Premier League season, but it wouldn’t be Newcastle United if things weren’t all as they seem.

It’s no surprise that Rafa Benitez has come out and admitted that he is not happy with Newcastle’s transfer dealings over the summer and has not assembled the squad which he had anticipated in returning to the Premier League.

After experiencing relegation and then sticking with us for a season in the Championship.  It is no surprise that Rafa is fed up and hasn’t been given the funds to make us strong enough to compete in the Premier League.  You only have to look at SportNation.bet and see that Newcastle are 5,000/1 to win the league this season – somehow I cannot see us ‘doing a Leicester City’ with our squad.

Speaking at the Premier League launch event earlier today, Rafa told Sky Sports: “It is very hard because the prices are crazy,”

“We missed some targets at the beginning and we are paying for that, but hopefully we can find some solutions.

“Sometimes it is not about you want, it is about what you need and what you can afford now.

Affordability is the frustrating word here, Mike Ashley needs to back the boss.  We’re crying out for another striker who can put the ball in the net in the top flight, goals are hard to come by.  We need a striker who can guarantee us 15 goals.  It was widely reported among football news sites including SportNation.com that missing out on the highly-rated Tammy Abraham was a huge frustration.

We can live in hope that some more signings arrive before the transfer window slams shut.
