Hatem Ben Arfa has been left out of the Newcastle United squad to travel to New Zealand to take part in the Football United tournament.

The Frenchman’s omission comes after he returned to pre-season training overweight. Ben Arfa has also reportedly been fined £1,600 for his unprofessionalism.

Alan Pardew has named a 24-man squad which includes four new signings – Siem de Jong, Jack Colback, Ayoze Perez and Emmanuel Riviere. Cheick Tiote will also link up with the squad in New Zealand after being given extra time off after competing in the World Cup with Ivory Coast earlier this summer.

Newcastle begin their tour by taking on Sydney FC in Dunedin before playing Wellington Phoenix.
