Teenage winger Rolando Aarons has signed his first professional contract with Newcastle United.

The Jamaican-born 18-year-old follows in the footsteps of Adam Armstrong by being rewarded for his fine form for the under-21 side with his first pro contract.

Aarons travelled with the first team for Newcastle’s 1-0 loss to Fulham last month. That game came just over a year after Aarons made his reserve team debut for the Magpies, a sign of his rapid progression in the Toon academy.

With Newcastle’s season fizzling out rapidly and Alan Pardew’s keenness to blood young talent, combined with the Geordies’ lack of wingers in the first team, Aarons could well make his first-team bow before the end of the campaign.
