If you were in Alan Pardew’s shoes tomorrow night, who would you pick for the game against Maritimo? Rotation is expected and many first team players are missing, so who should start for the Geordies? Leave a comment below, get involved and have your say!

Here’s what I’ve come up with:

Perch Williamson S. Taylor Ferguson

Obertan Bigirimana Amalfitano Sa. Ameobi

Sh. Ameobi

Many are missing but this is what I’d go with, a fairly youthful looking side with decent firepower, which should be enough to see off Maritimo. Our stand out player in this game could well be Haris Vuckic, as he has the talent to create something out of nothing and win games, just as he did against Atromitos in the qualifiers. In this position he has the most influence in the game, meaning we have the best chance of scoring goals.

Other young players will be blooded further, with Bigirimana and Amalfitano expected to play some part, while Steve Harper will continue in goal. I’d go with Shane Ferguson at left-back, with the Northern Ireland international a sufficient replacement for Davide Santon, who will possibly be rested.

I think Gosling will play ahead of Vuckic and Marveaux ahead of Amalfitano.
    Santon Willo Perch Fergie
    Marveaux Bigi Gosling Sammy
    Shola Obertan

  2. flounder

I would go with Elliot, Tav, Perch, Willo, Fergie, Obertan, Bigi, Anita, Amalfitano, Vuckic, Shola

  3. Vassilis

I would leave S Taylor out particularly when Colo is not definetely fit for Norwich and add Tavernier, and my other choice is Gosling in place of Amalfitano, Greekgeordie

  4. Jesus

Harper, Tavernier, Williamson, Perch, Ferguson, Obertan, Bigirimana, Gosling, Marveaux, Sammy, Shola

  5. DoubleCarpet

    Tav Perch Willo Santon
    Obertan Bigi Gosling Anita Marveaux

Protect Taylor as Colo's not fit. , Fergie & sammy just back from injury so protect them as well.

We'll play 1 up top with someone (I think Gosling) supporting Shola plus the pace from Obertan and Marveaux on the wings. Bigi and Anita sitting deep protecting the back 4.

Sammy & Campbell to come on and freshen things up for the last 15 when the opposition are tiring.

Narrow 1 goal victory. Job done.

I had thought about a variety of different tactical formations but knowing that the manager has very few plans going on in his head, I'd go 4-4-2 with Shola and Campbell up front. Its not rocket science but it fits with Pardews limited vision.
